On 7th September, Alpha Guilty held a large online meetup with crypto industry leaders and experts. The event was dedicated to the following topic: DeFi investment and Go-To-market strategies on a bear market. Speakers were talking about the current problems on the crypto market, and shared some advice for investors and private holders to help them survive and even profit from this downtrend cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The importance of this event is huge, because that\u2019s exactly the moment when people do their wealth during the bear market. Our aim is to let our community and investors feel better and pick up some ideas for their investment portfolios or personal wealth<\/p>\n\n\u2014 said Mikhail Sitalo, CEO of Alpha Guilty, in his opening speech<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Speaker 1. Lynn Nguyen, Head of Partnerships at Roseon World<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topic: How to benefit from your partners on a bear market<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miss Nguyen pondered on how a business can effectively use partnerships to go through hard times. Her main point \u2014 knowing how to collaborate can really help amidst a bear market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n

If you want to expand your community and increase revenues, partnering with other businesses for promotion and events is a great way to do it<\/p>\n\n\u2014 said Miss Nguyen<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

She noted that a good partnership should be based on trust and respect, brand alignment, similar values and shared goals. A good partnership can double your network and increase capital you can throw on promotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Leverage your partner\u2019s platform \u2014 tap into each other\u2019s resources to increase revenue<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topic: Smart investment mechanics of tomorrow<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Sitalo spoke from an investor point of view, and gave useful insights of the way investors think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He started his topic with some depressive statistics, according to which 90% of startups across all industries fail. But on the other side, the rate of unicorns has increased by 351%, and that fact encourages investors to put money in startups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main challenge to the success of a startup is generating new approaches and vision of the world \u2014 that\u2019s probably why NFTs were booming recently<\/p>\n\n\u2014 said Mikhail Sitalo, CEO of Alpha Guilty<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Main highlights (Winner side moves):<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Invest only the amount you can afford to lose, especially when it\u2019s a downtrend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Specialize in an industry or sector \u2014 if you invest in blockchain, don\u2019t go into real estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. At the same time, diversify your portfolio: try Layer 1, NFT, play-to-earn, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Invest in due diligence \u2014 reach the founders, do some expert calls, get to know whether the solution is visible or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Participate in the board of directors: if you can influence the project\u2019s decisions, you have lower risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker 3. Leon Lee, Founder and CEO at Only1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topic: How NFTs will change the creator economy due to bear market<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Lee started with an idea that crypto has never endured a proper recession, and it\u2019s still something to be tested. However, in the current bear market we should pay attention to brand new factors: the war, inflation, the US GDP growth, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He got across some problems and trends on the NFT market:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Fundraising via venture capital is not always good: VCs inject a lot of money into an ecosystem (e.g. Solana last year), so it becomes hyped and pumped. People start following money, not trends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Trends are changing fast in the NFT industry. Less than a year ago projects bursted with utilities, roadmaps, staking, and other good things. Today, users don\u2019t care about roadmaps but just want to see good community and good artworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Mr. Lee believes that NFTs can do so much more than being just a collectible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 NFTs can play a big role in creators economy: NFTs as access to creator are becoming a trend (on the example of Veefriends).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Leon Lee feels like the crypto market can reach new heights in the next 5 years. The driver to take us there will be mass adoption: better infrastructure, better bridges and wallets that actually solve real problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker 4. Berker Zor, Business Developer at Babylons<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topic: \u201cSafety guidelines\u201d of launchpads could damage the ecosystem in the long run<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Zor dwelled on the problem of safety measures and guidelines which culminates into endless runs of refunds on public raises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He mentioned that launchpads divide into two school of thought:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1) real concrete price protections (most launchpads) \u2014 if the project\u2019s token price falls very low, launchpads will initiate a retroactive refund;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2) price diagnostic \u2014 focusing on the roadmap and the project\u2019s development. As to Mr. Zor, it is a real way to protect your community from pitfalls and abandoned projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem of the first school is that it creates a cycle of people expecting the returns. Users sell tokens, and buy later at a lower price. So projects launched on such platforms lose all funding, get bad marketing and bad sentiments. They finally take money from VCs, which are less and less enthusiastic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Zor noted a serious decline of investments in new projects in the last couple of months, which was expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A possible solution is to create a set of principles which hopefully will be price diagnostic. As long as projects are price dependent, the problem won\u2019t be solved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker 5. Mariela Tanchez, Global Head of Business Development at Gate.io<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Topic: How to continue in crypto during bear market without risking assets<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting her speech, Miss Tanchez admitted that the current bear market is probably the biggest drop in history. However, it\u2019s not time to panic but to change the strategy, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Main highlights:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Still a lot of investments: VCs invested billions into crypto companies since the last crypto winter ($10 bn in Q1 2022 compared to $2 bn in Q1 2018);<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Traditional players are seeing the huge impact that crypto has and tools it offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She underlined that the bear market gives extra time to choose and research the project. Crypto is not about just buying and selling: it\u2019s also about hedging, staking, getting APY, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miss Tanchez dwelled on several innovative and safer options of earning on crypto that Gate.io offers to its customers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1) Single staking and flexible staking: choose how long you would like to stake and withdraw your funds at any time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2) Liquidity mining: earn income from fees by providing dual-assets liquidity to the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3) Cloud mining: option for mining crypto without buying hardware<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4) P2P commerce: buy low and sell a little bit higher to other people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariela\u2019s main point was \u2014 don\u2019t fear to jump into crypto amidst the bear market. New startups, from traditional markets to web3 projects, are continuously onboarding. If you are among the first ones to join, you\u2019re probably going to be in for a very good ride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You have probably heard about USDT and other fiat-pegged cryptocurrencies, or even have some in your portfolio. Those are stablecoins, a highly popular digital asset that is also held in high esteem within regulators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s everything you need to know about these special coins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are stablecoins?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stablecoins are a type of cryptocurrency that serve as a bridge between digital money and real-world assets. Typically, stablecoins should be pegged one-to-one and hold their value with underlying fiat currencies like the US dollar, euro, yen, etc. Fiat money is expected to be kept on banking accounts of the issuing firms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What stablecoins are there?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are many different types of stablecoins in the market with the respective backing of their underlying fiat currencies or commodities \u2014 hard physical assets such as gold or silver. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, there are also crypto-collateralized, or algorithmic stablecoins like Maker\u2019s DAI. Let\u2019s explore them all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fiat-backed coins<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This type of stablecoins is backed by and relies on a one-to-one ratio with its corresponding fiat currencies. The examples are Tether USDT and Circle USDC. They are the most popular stablecoins nowadays, and the largest players by market capitalization with $66 billion and $55 billion respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To ensure the proper performance, fiat-pegged stablecoins must be thoroughly backed and transparently audited by trusted third parties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Commodity-backed stablecoins<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

These stablecoins are backed by physical assets such as precious metals \u2014 certified gold or silver reserves. Some less popular coins are pegged by commodities, for example, crude oil or natural gas. Still, metals-backed cryptocurrencies are among the top-ranking ones, with Tether Gold (XAUT) and DigixGlobal (DGX) heading the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Algorithmic stablecoins<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most decentralized type of stablecoins, algorithmic, is considered to be the most trustworthy by many advanced crypto users. Algorithmic stablecoins focus on improving market price stability through pre-programmed supply for matching asset demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They are backed by other cryptocurrencies, and smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain automatically stabilize their value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maker\u2019s DAI is thought to be the most trusted decentralized stablecoin. It runs on Ethereum and aims to support a value of $1.00. Unlike fiat-pegged centralized stablecoins, DAI isn\u2019t backed by US dollar reserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stablecoins and governments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surprisingly, the idea of connecting real-world currencies to their blockchain-based analogues has been welcomed in many countries. The most recent example is the UK, which upgraded its regulation toward stablecoins. They now are 'digital settlement assets', which means they have potential to develop into a widespread means of payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the US, the regulatory landscape for stablecoins is marked with uncertainty. However, stablecoins as a technology have achieved significant success, especially in the banking sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, in the EU stablecoins are still neither prohibited, nor regulated. Only Switzerland and Malta have built a friendly environment for their circulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are stablecoins safe to invest in?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Normally, stablecoins maintain their pegged value and are less susceptible to volatility than cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. The issuing firm should guarantee it by keeping each user\u2019s coin in fiat equivalent on its banking account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, there were cases where stablecoins failed to maintain their value because of hacks and liquidity issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For instance, once-popular algorithmic stablecoin terraUSD (UST), which was supposed to maintain a $1 price, fell to $0.35 in May 2022. Its companion token LUNA, meant to stabilize UST's price, also collapsed to a few cents. That happened because $2 billion worth of UST appeared to be unstaked (taken off the blockchain protocol), leading to liquidation of coins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, how to use stablecoins?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By definition, stablecoins can\u2019t grow in price with time, unlike typical cryptocurrencies. But they can be a good option if you want to protect your fiat money from inflation by purchasing digital US dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another great use case is trading stablecoins in pairs with other cryptocurrencies on exchanges. Typically, crypto\/crypto pairs (e.g. USDT\/BTC) are charged with less fees than fiat\/crypto trading pairs (euro\/BTC). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the last, but not the least reason to invest in stablecoins is faster and cheaper P2P transactions.
